Meeuwsen Farms Ltd., located in Rolling Hills, Alberta, specializes in growing high-quality potatoes across 325 hectares annually. To support their expanding operations and ensure optimal storage conditions, Hanse Steel Group provided two essential warehouse extensions—one in 2017 and another in 2020. These expansions were designed to protect the harvested potatoes from Canada’s harsh climate while maintaining long-term efficiency and durability.

A durable and climate-resistant storage solution

Given Alberta’s extreme temperature fluctuations and high humidity levels, the Meeuwsen family required a storage facility that could withstand these conditions while ensuring optimal preservation of their crops. Hanse Steel Group addressed this need by constructing a steel-framed warehouse with high-insulation sandwich panels, providing a maintenance-friendly, long-lasting solution.

Sustainable design for agricultural storage

Hanse Steel Group designed the warehouse expansions at Meeuwsen Farms Ltd. with durability, efficiency, and climate resistance in mind. The hot-dip galvanized steel structure was chosen for its exceptional ability to withstand high humidity and temperature fluctuations—common challenges in Alberta’s farming regions. Unlike traditional wooden structures that can deteriorate quickly in moist conditions, galvanized steel provides long-term protection against corrosion while also being easier to clean and maintain.

To ensure the highest level of thermal efficiency, the roof and walls are clad in advanced sandwich panels with a PIR core. These panels offer superior insulation, maintaining stable storage conditions despite external temperature swings. This prevents condensation buildup, protecting the potatoes from excess moisture and spoilage. Designed to perform in extreme climates, the insulation properties of these panels remain effective even after years of use, making them a sustainable and cost-effective choice for agricultural storage.

By combining high-quality materials with a smart design approach, Hanse Steel Group delivered a storage facility that is low-maintenance, highly durable, and optimized for preserving the quality of stored potatoes—a long-term investment in the efficiency of Meeuwsen Farms Ltd.

Expert collaboration for a seamless build

To ensure the successful completion of the warehouse expansions, Hanse Steel Group combined local expertise with professional oversight. The project was carried out in close collaboration with regional contractors under the supervision of Hanse Steel’s experienced technicians. This strategic partnership ensured that the construction process was efficient, well-coordinated, and free from unnecessary delays. By leveraging both local knowledge and specialized construction expertise, the project was completed on time while maintaining high standards of quality and long-term sustainability.

“Even after the warehouses were completed, Hanse Steel Group has remained a reliable partner for us, providing ongoing support and addressing any questions or concerns promptly.”
