Haskett Growers

Efficient potato storage and packaging facility for Haskett Growers

Location: Winkler, Manitoba, Canada
Type of facility: storage for fresh produce and packaging facility
Storage facility for: 5.000 tons potatoes
Dimensions: 50 x 81 meters (164’ x 264’)

Building on the success of our work with Southern Potato co., Hanse Steel Group applied the lessons learned from that project to deliver an optimized storage and packaging facility for Haskett Growers. Located in Winkler, Manitoba, this facility is designed to offer both high-efficiency storage for potatoes and dedicated packaging capabilities—a key addition that streamlines operations and improves productivity.

Delivering sustainable storage and packaging solutions

The objective of this project was to create a state-of-the-art facility that maximizes storage efficiency while ensuring the best possible conditions for the potatoes. The innovative layout improves operational efficiency, allowing for better organization and streamlined handling of the produce from storage to packaging.

Innovative design for potato storage and packaging

Hanse Steel Group’s design for this facility builds on the lessons learned from similar projects in Canada and is tailored to meet the specific demands of potato storage. The Haskett Growers’ facility features hot-dip galvanized steel for its structure, providing exceptional resistance to moisture and corrosion. This ensures the longevity of the building and reduces maintenance costs over time—an investment that proves invaluable for storing damp products like potatoes. Furthermore, sandwich panels were used for the walls and roof. These panels, with a high-insulation PIR core, offer excellent thermal performance, maintaining stable internal temperatures despite external climate fluctuations. The durable materials ensure consistent quality, with the insulation properties remaining effective even after years of use.

This innovative combination of materials and design ensures the facility supports efficient, sustainable operations while protecting the quality of the stored and packaged produce.

Seamless execution with local expertise

The project was completed with the collaboration of local experts under the supervision of Hanse Steel Group’s experienced technicians. The combination of local knowledge and professional oversight ensured a smooth construction process. As with previous projects, this approach helped to enhance the overall efficiency. By combining optimal storage design with efficient packaging solutions, the new building supports increased productivity and quality control, ensuring that potatoes are stored and processed under the best possible conditions.
